The National Day at Lake Thingvallavatn

Fly fishing

A lot of people did get the same idea as me and my friend did. That is to celebrate the Icelandic national the 17th of juni in the lake Thingvallavatn. The weather was wonderful. It was warm, not windy and cloudy.

We decided to try a new spot in the lake. It´s either called Gjaendar (Gap´s end) or Davidsgja (Davids gap). I don´t know how far south we were so I´m not sure if I´ve got the names right. There were cliffs were we started to fish so the conditions were not in favour of fly casting. Not much space. There was a fish there for sure. We saw the arctic chars swimming in front of us in the crystal clear water. It was a beautiful sight. Now we only had to offer them something they were interested in. Well we failed to do that so we moved further north were the conditions were better.

Calm lake

There we stayed for quite a long time and six chars took the flies. Two of them got away. The char was picky. She seemed to like the flies Pheasant tail, Peacock and Frisco best. Since the fishing was not so good we decided move towards a place called Arnarfell (Eagels cliff). There we did catch two more chars.
