Yes, I am still dreaming about last summer. Even though you have a lot to do it is important not to forget to reward yourself for a job well done. In the beginning of August me and my wife were building a storage shed by our hut in the countryside. The weather was very nice so it was tempting to lay down the tools and head for the moor. That is exactly what we did.
The lake on the moor
During the coldest and darkest time of year, it is nice to review the fun things you did last summer. The days are slowly getting longer but there is still a long time until the sportfishing season starts. The last fishing trip my wife and I had last summer was to the lake on the moor in middle of August. The weather was wonderful which we thought was not the best conditions for good catch.
Dust in the Wind by Kansas
In 1977 Kansas published the song Dust in the Wind. Originally it was not supposed to be published because Livgren who composed the song ment it just to be an arpeggio exercise. But they needed one more song for their album and the exercise sounded good so they recorded it for the album. I found an fingerstyle arrangement for the song and tried to play it my self. Click on the image the hear how it went and here is a bit more about the song. Click here to read a bit more about the song.
Streets of London
Way back when I was starting to learn to play the guitar I came across this song. Two years ago I stumbled up on it again and played a simple fingerstyle version of the song. Click on the image to hear it and here you can read more about the song.
Deep River Blues
Today is the first day of summer and to my pleasure, we did see some sun today. The summer of 2018 brought us so few sunny days. Hopefully, the summer of 2019 will bring more. Because of all this rain was left with serious raining blues. I decided that it would be appropriate to learn a blues song this winter dedicated to heavy rain. Click on the image to visit my webpage and learn more about the song and listen to it.
Have a nice summer.
Tambourine man
Bob Dylan wrote the song Mr. Tambourine man in the first half of 1964. He recorded it the year after for the album Bringing it all home. The same year Byrds recorded their version of the song. Byrds version made it to the top of the Billboard list. It is the only Dylan song that has done so. (more…)
Fishing in the Icelandic highlands
North wind dominates the weather in Iceland these days so it´s cold in the highlands. Still I went two evenings this week to the highlands with my wife and daughter to fish for arctic char and trout. Can´t say that we were successful but we did get two small trouts and big arctic char got away. When the north wind blows like this the days are usually bright but the temperature is low. Well we still had a nice time in the highlands. It´s not always about how many fishes you get. Sometimes it´s more about experiencing the nature.
Here are the stories in Icelandic and more images. http://vefurkela.com/index.php/veidhi/53-holmavatn and http://vefurkela.com/index.php/veidhi/54-tangavatn-i-juli-2015
The image below is from lake Tangavatn on Holtavorduheidi in mid- Iceland. The mountain in the middle is glacier Eiriksjokull. The weteher looks nice but the wind was strong and when the sun hid behind a cloud it got cold.
Lake Thingvallavatn in May
Spring is late this year in Iceland. As a result the arctic char is late in lake Þingvallavatn and other fishing lakes. Still me and my wife went fishing this morning. As we suspected the lake was still to cold but we did have a nice time by the lake watching the birds doing their spring activities. In the image shot by my wife The Great Northern Diver swims just few feet from me. Ignores me completely.

Fishing in Hraunsfjörður
It has been a long winter and the spring did not come early. The lakes are not yet warm enough. Still I will go fishing tomorrow. The images in the post were taken few years ago in Hraunsfjörður in West Iceeland. http://vefurkela.com/index.php/veidhi/46-voetnin-a-vatnaleidh-og-hraunsfjoerdhur
The National Day at Lake Thingvallavatn
A lot of people did get the same idea as me and my friend did. That is to celebrate the Icelandic national the 17th of juni in the lake Thingvallavatn. The weather was wonderful. It was warm, not windy and cloudy.
We decided to try a new spot in the lake. It´s either called Gjaendar (Gap´s end) or Davidsgja (Davids gap). I don´t know how far south we were so I´m not sure if I´ve got the names right. There were cliffs were we started to fish so the conditions were not in favour of fly casting. Not much space. There was a fish there for sure. We saw the arctic chars swimming in front of us in the crystal clear water. It was a beautiful sight. Now we only had to offer them something they were interested in. Well we failed to do that so we moved further north were the conditions were better.
There we stayed for quite a long time and six chars took the flies. Two of them got away. The char was picky. She seemed to like the flies Pheasant tail, Peacock and Frisco best. Since the fishing was not so good we decided move towards a place called Arnarfell (Eagels cliff). There we did catch two more chars.
